[ARCHIVED] Navigating the October 2023 Annular Eclipse

Annular Ecplipse Photo

While eclipses happen every one or two years, the peak of this month’s Annular Eclipse show put on by the sun and the moon will be directly over our county. While Pagosa Springs is not considered to be 100% in the line of site, locations like Navajo Dam, the Aztec Ruins National Monument and the city of Cortez will be. The town of Pagosa is in the 90-95% range of the full eclipse and weather permitting, will have a clear view of this spectacular experience.

The Ruby Sisson Library will be hosting a watch party during the event on Saturday, from 9:30-11:30am in the library’s garden courtyard. Proper eyewear for watching the eclipse from anywhere, can be obtained free of charge at the library. Limit to two per person.

On Saturday morning, traffic will be heavy, and roadsides may become jammed with onlookers. Residents are encouraged to please drive slowly and be alert. The list below provides several helpful links aimed at keeping citizens informed and safe.
