Presidential Primary:  March 5, 2024

In Colorado, there is no registration deadline. Voters can register and vote on the same day at our Vote Center. Although, you must be a Colorado resident 22 days prior to an election per CRS 1-2-201(3)(b)(1).

ATTENTION Unaffiliated Voters:

You will receive two (2) ballots in your mail ballot packet.  You MUST only return one (1) voted ballot in order for us to count your ballot.

ATTENTION 17-Year-Olds:

The Colorado Votes Act, which took effect in August 2019, allows 17-year-olds to vote in state and presidential primary elections as long as they will be 18 on or before the specific election date.  

Important Dates & Events

  • Jan 19:  Ballots will be mailed/transmitted to eligible overseas and military (UOCAVA) voters.
  • Feb 12:
    • Ballots will be mailed to all Active Democratic, Republican and Unaffiliated voters who are registered in Archuleta County.  
    • Last day for voters who are affiliated with a political party to change or withdraw their affiliation if they wish to vote in a different party's primary election for the Presidential Primary Election
  • Feb 14:  Secure Ballot Drop Boxes Open 
    • Drop Box Locations:
      • Drop Box #1 - (Old Courthouse) 449 San Juan Street, Pagosa Springs, CO located outside on the westside of the building near the flagpole.
      • Drop Box #2 - (Tara Community Center) 333 Milton Lane, Arboles, CO  
  • Feb 16: 
    • Last day to affiliate with the Republican Party or Democratic Party in order to vote in the Party precinct caucuses.  (Contact your party for specific details. Parties must notify Secretary of State's Office and the clerk by January 2, 2024) 
    • Last day to update your voter registration address to participate in the Party precinct caucuses. (Must be a resident of the precinct for 22 days and registered to vote no later than 22 days before the precinct caucus)
  • Feb 26 to March 5:  Voter Service and Polling Center (VSPC) and Drop Boxes are required to be open.

  • Feb 26:  Last day citizens may register to vote or update their voter record at and have a ballot mailed to them.  If the deadline has passed, simply visit us through Election Day at our Voter Center - 449 San Juan St. in person to register, vote, or request a replacement ballot. 
  • March 5:  ELECTION DAY!  VSPC's and Drop Boxes close at 7:00 p.m 
  • March 9:  Last day to hold Democratic and Republican precinct caucus.  Contact your party for specific details. 

Visit to view or update your registration online.  It is important that registered voters keep their records up to date with their current information.  All active registered voters will automatically receive a ballot in the mail.  The voter may not receive their ballot if their voter record has inaccurate or outdated personal information.  



Ballots must be returned to and in the hands of the Archuleta County Clerk & Recorder no later than 7:00 PM on Election Day, March 5, 2024. We recommend you mail your ballot no later than 8 days before Election Day.  Postmarks do not count.
